A great global tragedy, that changed the landscape of the world. The moment where the Seekers claimed the Flame of Creation, to deny the Gods of old. Magic left the world, breaking barriers and dropping the floating city of Cielnor. The cataclysm that followed and the lack of magic left effects that are still being felt to this day.
In the final moments of the conflict between the returned Zolna and the Gods, a contingent of the adventuring party the Seekers claimed the Flame of Creation. In that moment, Casmir, Torrah, Revalor, Kydro and Mordecai became gods themselves. As the power of the flame left the world, magic failed across the world.
The floating Kingdom of Cielnor, once held aloft by diving Magics fell from the sky. As it collapsed, it laid ruin to a large swatch of the continent. The displaced water caused a massive tidal wave that ravaged the coast of other contients, reshaping them forever.
In the final moments, Casmir dubbed the God of Barriers would enact a barrier the edicts of Casmir preventing the gods from directly entering the mortal realms again and diminishing their ability to grant boons to their followers.
Magic would not return for many decades after the Tears of Tumes. The sick could not be cured by clerics, those who died could not be resurrected by divine intervention. Airships once reliant on Noxiarium, collapse into ruin as the magical ore became intert.
Ancient magics failed, leaving unknown terrors held back by barriers to seep back into the world. Those with magical gifts, would begin to experiment with the remanents of the Noxerium. Converting it into a drug in the hopes of refueling their abilites, an addictive and dangerous concoction.
Cities across the world would begin to rebuild, beginning to design technologies based on science instead of magic. The power of steam would become a gift to many. Cities that could not be rebuilt, were instead built over the top of the fallen ruins. Slowly, magic would return to the world. But the powers of the divine remained diminished, with the gods forbidden to interfere again.
New threats would begin to lurk, while ancient threats still unknown had yet to surface.
