Wrath of Many Heads
The Veiled Vanguard ventures eastward, joined by two unlikely companions—Theo the dragonborn and Billy the half-elf—before stumbling into a deadly confrontation with a dracohydra in its lair. As tempers flare and loyalties are tested, the battle grows into a struggle not only against the beast but against forces within the party itself.
Setting off east into a forest of silver and gold leaves, the Vanguard was accompanied by two inmates completing community service: a white-scaled Dragonborn named Theo and a half-elf named Billy. Mid-trek, a deer was snatched by a five-tailed Dracohydra—a beast capable of utilizing multi-type breath attacks and regrowing severed heads unless dealt specific elemental damage. Tracking the monster to its lair, the party snuck through the cavern while Emelyne remained behind in the city. Inside, Theo pulled out a jade-handled dagger, which Thalia instantly recognized as the exact weapon used in the sacrificial murder of her parents.
Tension erupted as Ro’Zaad and Percy made a 20-gold bet on who could steal the dagger. When Ro’Zaad noticed a three-clawed symbol of Kydro's cult nearby, he warned Thalia telepathically and attempted to trip Theo and snag his necklace. Theo bolted deeper into the lair, prompting Billy to cast Command on Ro'Zaad (which Ro'Zaad resisted) and hold a ready Fireball, while Thalia nocked an arrow at the suspect and Renatus held an Eldritch Blast. Mid-standoff, the Dracohydra erupted from a central pool, spitting a massive plume of poison gas. Ro’Zaad deployed his Iron Bands of Bilarro to restrain the beast, forcing it back under the water. Sanasha dove into the pool to engage it directly—eventually using celestial tree vines to teleport the beast beneath her and ride its back—while Theo took a healing potion and promised to explain himself after the fight.
As the Dracohydra sprouted additional heads and snapped at Sanasha, thunderous shockwaves battered the cave. Theo's white scale makeup washed off in the chaos, revealing red scales beneath. Naoki cast Polymorph on the Dracohydra, successfully turning the gargantuan terror into a multi-headed rhinoceros beetle, which he pocketed. Cornered, Theo openly confessed to murdering Thalia’s father and taunted her to slit his throat. Furious, Thalia attacked alongside Kevin the dragon, raking Theo’s face over his existing scar. Billy cast a Wall of Fire to separate the group, but Ro’Zaad deftly slipped through the flames to strike Theo with a psychic blade. Thalia landed a subduing arrow that knocked Theo unconscious.
Meanwhile, underwater, the Polymorph broke or expired; the multi-headed Dracohydra ambushed the unconscious Sanasha, dropping her to her last stand via Orcish Endurance before Ro’Zaad burst through the water with psychic daggers to blast away one of its heads. As Renatus hammered the beast with Eldritch Blasts, a revived Theo coughed up blood, warned Thalia that the true quarry remained behind her, and fired a chromatic orb at the monster. Before the Vanguard could resolve whether to execute Theo or finish the Dracohydra, Billy grabbed the unconscious Theo and teleported them both out of the cavern, leaving the party to face the enraged beast alone.
